Rules for Being Human

RULES FOR BEING HUMAN

1. You will learn lessons: You are enrolled in a full-time school called "Life on the Planet Earth."
Every person or incident is your teacher.

2. There are no mistakes -- only lessons: "Failures" are stepping-stones to success.

3. A lesson is repeated until learned. It is presented in various forms until learned. If you are here, there are still lessons to be learned.

4. If you don't learn the easy lessons they get harder.  Pain is one way the universe gets your attention.

5. You'll know when you've learned a lesson when your actions change.  Only action can change knowledge to wisdom

6. There is no right or wrong  -- only consequences.  The universe never judges us: it only gives us opportunities to balance and learn.

7. "There" is no better than "here."  When "there" becomes a "here", you'll notice another "there" that again looks better than "here".

8. Your life is up to you.  Life provides the canvas; you do the painting.

9. Your answers lie inside you.  All you need to do is look, listen, and trust.

10. You'll tend to forget all this.

He would have been 70 Years Old Today

From the Quote of the Week Files; February 25, 2013

“Your life will be transformed when you make peace with your shadow. The caterpillar will become a breathtakingly beautiful butterfly. You will no longer have to pretend to be someone you're not. You will no longer have to prove you're good enough. When you embrace your shadow you will no longer have to life in fear. Find the gifts of your shadow and you will finally revel in all the glory of your true self. Then you will have the freedom to create the life you have always desired.”

__________

The Author of the above quote, Debbie Ford, unfortunately past away last week at age 57 after a courageous battle with cancer (http://store.debbieford.com/pages.php?pID=98). She was a best selling author and an inspirational workshop leader positively impacting many lives. Over the years I have used Debbie's quotes and they have resonated with many of you as indicated by your comments.  The Recycled Quote of Week Classic are all of Debbie Ford's insights that were used over the years.  May she rest in peace.
__________

"The way into this new world can be so simple - and so sweet. When you're willing to listen to your own voice and trust yourself enough to follow your heart, you encounter your true power - a power marked by courage and vulnerability. Any moment you offer a whole-hearted 'Yes!' to your own truth, you are infused with the power, self-worth, self-respect, self-esteem and confidence that will give wings to the best year of your life."

Debbie Ford, The Best Year of Your Life.
__________

"The best year of our lives is not made up of days or weeks or months. It is made up of moments. Moments when we allow our separateness to melt away so we can be truly intimate with another; moments when we take a risk and express our love in an unexpected way; moments when we choose forgiveness over resentment; moments when we appreciate the perfection of where we are and who we are with. These are the moments that bring meaning to our lives and joy to our hearts."

__________

Asking Right Questions

1. Will this choice propel me toward an inspiring future or will it keep me stuck in the past?
2. Will this choice bring me long term fulfillment or will it bring me short term gratification?
3. Am I standing in my own power or am I trying to please another?
4. Am I looking for what's right, or am I looking for what's wrong?
5. Will this choice add to my life force, or will it rob me of my energy?
6. Will I use this situation as a catalyst to grow and evolve or will I use it to beat myself up?
7. Does this choice empower me or dis-empower me?
8. Is this an act of self-love or self-sabotage?
9. Is this an act of faith or an act of fear?
10 Am I choosing from my Divinity or am I choosing from my humanity?

___________

"We are spiritual beings, and inherent in our DNA is a design to return us home -- home to our true essence, our greatest self, our limitless self. One of the ways we unconsciously ensure our return is through pain. Pain is the greatest motivator for change. It is the spiritual crowbar that pries open the door to new realities. Would we look into our deeper selves or dwell in them, grapple with them, or inquire into them and initiate change if everything was perfect? More than likely we would just continue living day by day in the comfort of our familiar worlds".

Debbie Ford, Why Good People Do Bad Things
__________

"The possibility of making this your best year ever exists in every moment, because having the best year of your life depends not on some outside accomplishment but on allowing the greatest expression of yourself to be unveiled. Having the best year of your life is about becoming the person you always wanted to be. It's about embracing a vision of yourself at your best and developing the qualities that will take you there."
__________

Getting ready for the Holidays

"If you were going to make this the best holiday season ever, how would you do it?  It won't happen for most people, because most people won't have that as their #1 intention.  And it's unlikely that you'll have the life-changing holidays that you could have if you don't create a powerful intent."

A Short Autobiography that Nudges

My Autobiography in Five Short Chapters

Chapter One....
"I walk down the street.  There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.  I fall in.  I am lost.  I am helpless. It isn't my fault!  It takes me forever to find a way out."

Chapter Two....
"I walk down the same street.  There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.  I pretend I don't see it. I fall in again. I can't believe I'm in the same place, but it isn't my fault!!  It still takes me a long time to get out."

Chapter Three....
"I walk down the same street.  There is a deep hole in the middle of the sidewalk.  I see it there. I still fall in....it is a habit. I know where I am.  It is my fault.  I get out immediately."

Chapter Four....
"I walk down the same street.  There is a deep hole in the middle of the sidewalk.
I walk around it."

Chapter Five....
"I walk down another street!"

A Tony de Mello Inspiration

Am I my thoughts, the thoughts that I am thinking? No.  Thoughts come and go;  I am not my thoughts.  Am I my body?  They tell us that millions of cells in our body are changed or are renewed every minute, so that by the end of seven years we don't have a single living cell in our body that was there seven years before.  Cells come and go.  Cells arise and die.  But "I" seems to persist.  So am I my body?  Evidently not.

TGIM Everybody!  It is time for the Quote of the Week! This week's quote is one that I need to hear!
__________

The decision to be positive is not one that disregards or belittles the sadness that exists; it is, rather, a conscious choice to focus on the good and to cultivate genuine happiness. Happiness is not a limited resource… and when we devote our energy and time to trivial matters and choose to stress over things that ultimately are insignificant, from that point we perpetuate our own sadness and we lose sight of the things that really make us happy… and rationalize our way out of doing amazing things.”

A Meditation that Nudges

A Meditation by Anthony de Mello...

The Master was unsparing of those
who wallowed in self-pity or resentment.

"To be wronged," he said, is nothing
unless you insist on remembering it."

A Parable that Nudges

“A group of tourists sits in a bus that is passing through gorgeously beautiful country; lakes and mountains and green fields and rivers. But the shades of the bus are pulled down. They do not have the slightest idea of what lies beyond the windows of the bus. And all the time of their journey is spent in squabbling over who will have the seat of honor in the bus, who will be applauded, who will be well considered. And so they remain till the journey’s end.”

And a Recycled Quote of the Week Classic...

“The best thing for being sad," replied Merlin, beginning to puff and blow, "is to learn something.  That's the only thing that never fails.  You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honor trampled in the sewers of baser minds.  There is only one thing for it then — to learn.  Learn why the world wags and what wags it.  That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting.  Learning is the only thing for you.  Look what a lot of things there are to learn."
