A Quote Revisited; A Man Remembered

It has come to my attention that Carnegie Mellon professor Randy Pausch, 47, has lost his battle with pancreatic cancer this past Friday. With months to live, Pausch gave his famous "Last Lecture" speech at Carnegie Mellon University in September 2007 and it was featured as a Quote of the Week on September 24th (see below for a link to his last lecture).

He cast a long shadow, and his good works will not long be forgotten. May he rest in peace.
__________
"Be thankful for brickwalls. Brick walls are there for a reason. They let us prove how badly we want things."

Professor Randy Pausch
__________

The Story behind the quote...

Many colleges and universities are sponsoring "Last Lectures," inviting speakers to deliver what they would if they knew it was their last lecture. For the author of the above quote, the "last" part of "last lecture" is very real.

What wisdom would we impart to the world if we knew it was our last chance?

Congatutations Donna and Michael! Wishing you a happy marriage and hoping that your life together will be rich in joy and love!
__________

"Marriage is an Athenic weaving together of families, of two souls with their individual fates and destinies, of time and eternity--everyday life married to the timeless mysteries of the soul."
Thomas Moore

A Recycled Quote of the Week Classic...

"There are four questions of value in life...
What is sacred?
Of what is the spirit made? What is worth living for, and what is worth dying for?

The answer to each is the same.
Only love."

From the Quote of the Week Files, July 22, 2008

"We are spiritual beings, and inherent in our DNA is a design to return us home -- home to our true essence, our greatest self, our limitless self. One of the ways we unconsciously ensure our return is through pain. Pain is the greatest motivator for change. It is the spiritual crowbar that pries open the door to new realities. Would we look into our deeper selves or dwell in them, grapple with them, or inquire into them and initiate change if everything was perfect? More than likely we would just continue living day by day in the comfort of our familiar worlds".

A Recycled Quote of the Week Classic...

"Through the gateway of feeling your weakness lies your strength;through the gateway of feeling your pain lies your pleasure and joy;through the gateway of feeling your fear lies your security and safety;through the gateway of feeling your loneliness lies your capacity to have fulfillment, love and companionship;through the gateway of feeling your hate lies your capacity to love;through the gateway of feeling your hopelessness lies true and justified hope;through the gateway of accepting the lacks of your childhood lies your fulfillment now.In giving ourselves permission to feel all of our feelings, we free ourselves from the tyranny of our defenses and open ourselves to our heart's desires."

Simple Truths, A recipe for Spaghetti all equate to living your life more fully ~ or at least Mario Batali thinks so. Enjoy this week's quote!
__________

"Pay attention to the truth. It's not an intellectual thing. It's a gut thing. My truth is that I love real, honest, passionate, intense experiences. Experiences that don't apologize for themselves or claim to be something they aren't. ... You want a recipe? Boil some spaghetti in well-salted water. While you're doing that, heat up some good extra-virgin olive oil in a skillet and throw in some thin slices of garlic and some red pepper flakes. When the pasta's cooked, toss it in the skillet. Throw in some chopped parsley and a little of the pasta water. Toss it around. Put it on a plate. Grate some Parmigiano Reggiano on top. Congratulations, dude. You've just made spaghetti all'aglio e olio. One of the greatest simple truths of humankind - and a damn good emergency dinner. That's a recipe. It's an idea. It's a dish. It's an icon. It's an experience. It's not rules. And as you cook up your life, I hope you never let anyone else's recipe for success intimidate you or get in your way. Rules are overrated. "

"One of the deep secrets of life is that all that is really worth doing is what we do for others."

__________

A Recyled Quote of the Week Classic..

I will not die an unlived life.
I will not live in fear of falling or catching fire.
I choose to inhabit my days,
To allow my living to open me,
To make me less afraid,
More accessible.

To loosen my heart until it becomes a wing,
a torch, a promise.
I choose to risk my significance;
To live so that which came to me as seed
goes on to the next as blossom
And that which came to me as blossom,
goes on as fruit.
