Time for Reflection; From the Quote of the Week Files; December 26, 2016

Time for Reflection

Getting ready for the New Year!

“As the year comes to a close, it is a time for reflection – a time to release old thoughts and beliefs and forgive old hurts. Whatever has happened in the past year, the New Year brings fresh beginnings. Exciting new experiences and relationships await. Let us be thankful for the blessings of the past and the promise of the future.”

The Meaning of Christmas; From the Quote of the Week Files; December 19, 2016

The Meaning of Christmas
from Two Unusual Sources...

"It's Christmas Eve, it's the one night of the year where we all act a little nicer, we smile a little easier, we cheer a little more...for a couple of hours out of the whole year we are the people that we always hoped we would be. It's a miracle, it's really sort of a miracle, because it happens every Christmas Eve..."You have to do something, you have to take a chance, you do have to get involved. There are people that are having trouble making their miracle happen. There are people who don't have enough to eat, there are people that are cold...you can go out and say "hello" to these people. You can take an old blanket out of the closet and say "here" you can make them a sandwich and say "oh by the way here!" I get it now! If you give, then it can happen...then the miracle can happen to you. It's not just the poor and hungry, it's everybody who's got to have this miracle!! And it can happen tonight for all of you! If you believe in this spirit thing, the miracle will happen and then you'll want it to happen again tomorrow. You won't be one of those (Scrooges) who says Christmas is once a year and it's a fraud...it's not! It can happen every day..you've just got to want that feeling. And if you like it and you want it you'll get greedy for it...you'll want it every day of your life, and it can happen to you. I believe in it now! I believe it's gonna happen to me now, and I'm ready for it. It's great! It's a good feeling..it's better than I've felt in a long time! I'm ready....have a Merry Christmas, everyone."
From the movie "Scrooged" (1988)
starring Bill Murray
_________

Charlie Brown: Isn’t there anyone, who knows what Christmas is all about?!
Linus: Sure Charlie Brown, I can tell you what Christmas is all about. Lights please?
And there were in the same country shepherds, abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them! And they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, “Fear not! For, behold, I bring you tidings o great joy, which shall be to all my people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ, the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you: Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.” And suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the Heavenly Host praising God, and saying, “Glory to God in the Highest, and on Earth peace, and good will toward men.
That’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.

Quotes about this Holiday Season!

"If you were going to make this the best holiday season ever, how would you do it? It won't happen for most people, because most people won't have that as their #1 intention. And it's unlikely that you'll have the life-changing holidays that you could have if you don't create a powerful intent."

We don't Know; From the Quote of the Week Files; December 5, 2016

We don't know
"When we think that something is going to bring us pleasure, we really don’t know what’s going to happen. When we think something is going to give us misery, we don’t know. Letting there be room for not knowing is the most important thing of all. We try to do what we think is going to help. But we don’t know. We never know if we’re going to fall flat or sit up tall. When there’s a big disappointment, we don’t know if that’s the end of the story. It may be just the beginning of a great adventure…. Life is like that. We call something bad; we call it good.
But really we just don’t know. "

Be the Light ~ From the Quote of the Week Files; November 28, 2016

“Everyone has this giant, luminous being that is their true self… Everyone is a sleeping giant, so to speak, waiting to hear the call, waiting to surrender to it, waiting to act on it. We’ve gotten caught up in thinking we are what we look like, the physical, the exterior. We think we’re the lamp shade. We’ve forgotten that we are the light—the electricity and the luminosity that lights up every man, woman, and child.
The light is who we truly are.”

5 plus 1 Questions in Life; From the Quote of the Week Files; November 7, 2016

Five Essential Questions in Life

1. Wait, what?
2. I wonder, why/if?
3. Couldn’t we at least?
4. How can I help?
5. What really matters?

Bonus question:
And did you get what you wanted out of life, even so?
The “even so” tag is a reminder that life even at its best is filled with pain, sorrow, and disappointments. Still, even so, are you living a fulfilling life? "My claim is that if you regularly ask: wait, what, I wonder, couldn’t we at least, how can I help, and what really matters, when it comes time to ask yourself 'And did you get what you wanted out of life, even so?' your answer will be I ‘did.'"

So, do it. Decide.
Is this the life you want to live?
Is this the person you want to love?
Is this the best you can be?
Can you be stronger?
Kinder? More Compassionate?
Decide.
Breathe in.

From the Quote of the Week Files; October 10, 2016

A Reminder if you are feeling a bit stuck in Life...

This is your world. It’s full of more potential for pleasure, love, glory, beauty and bliss that can be comprehended. It even surprises you with misfortune so you can experience the full range of your explosive emotions, and so the good things are that much sweeter. Even better, nothing great comes easily. That would be hopelessly boring. You have thrilling hurdles to overcome at every corner in order to achieve greatness in this life.”

Extraordinary Possibilities

“Beyond the shadows of our doubt lies an ocean of extraordinary possibilities; things that could have been or could be; if we had the faith to see them through. Our doubts betray and deflect us from our true selves and deprive us of our chances to love, to achieve, to trust, or to know what we’re truly capable of…all because we confide in our fears rather than endeavor towards our rightful providences."

Reunion Reflections; From the Quote of the Week Files; September 19, 2016

Last year I attended my College Reunion
This past weekend I attended my High School Reunion

Some Reflections and a Quote  or 2
about that experience...
_____

Life is Short

It's never to late to share a memory or to thank someone

My High School and College years were NOT the real me, but the Pre Me
(I'm still a work in progress though)

Comparing yourself to others is a waste of time.

It's not too late to find and pursue our passions

"I have been truly blessed"

was the most commonly used phrased I heard
 throughout the evening,

e
ven though many have
 gone through
loss, illness and disabilities
.
(To that end, we are not immune)

Time passes all too quickly

Grateful for Name Tags

Some of my Classmates changed
so much that they didn't
recognize me! ;-)

You laugh a lot.

It's all about connections.

Ulysses

Tho' much is taken, much abides; and tho'
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Joyful and Exuberant; From the Quote of the Week Files; September 12, 2016

Joyful & Exuberant

"That is a grand goal. Something to shoot for. Let’s go for that today. Yup, sign me up. Let’s start imagining that it’s entirely possible, that it’s a state that exists, that it’s within reach, heck it might even be around the corner, or right next to you, about to tap you on the shoulder, right after you read this. I know and you know that imagining it will not automatically make it happen. But It might help. Let’s forget our cynical, logical self for a minute. Most of the time we don’t have any goals for the day, other than a to-do list. If we decide that today we are going to feel JOYFUL and EXUBERANT, then I’d say there is a damn good chance we will. We’ll be on the lookout for it, and when we spot it, we’ll grab it. It’ll be ours. So let us put in on our list today."
