From the Quote of the Week Files; January 27, 2014

Welcome to the Quote of the Week! This week's quote is from the song, Conviction of the Heart by Kenny Loggins. The song is about the environment, but for me it is also about being connected (synchronicity), figuring out what is important and the contribution I want to make.
_________

Conviction of the Heart

One with the earth, with the sky
One with everything in life
I believe it will start
With conviction of the heart

Kenny Loggins
__________

A Recycled Quote of the Week Classic...
"Attention is also known as mindfulness, awareness, concentration, recollection. It is a primary practice, and not just alphabetically. We must stay alert or we risk missing some of the critical elements of life — moments of grace, opportunities for gratitude, evidence of our connections to others. The good news is that attention can be practiced anywhere, anytime, in the daily rounds of our lives.

Begin by doing one thing at a time. Keep your mind focused on whatever you happen to be doing at the moment. It is through the mundane and the familiar that we discover a world of ceaseless wonders. Train yourself to notice details."

Conviction of the Heart (Song Lyrics)

On which the earth raise the sky
On which every thing in life

Where are the dreams that we once had?
This is the time to bring them back
What were the promises
Caught on the tips of our tongues?

Do we forget or forgive?
There's a whole other life
Waiting to live when
One day we're brave enough
To talk with conviction of the heart

And down your streets I've walked alone
As if my feet were not my own
Such is the path I chose
Doors I have opened and closed

I'm tired of living this life
Fooling myself, believing we're right when
I've never given love
With any conviction of the heart

One with the earth, with the sky
One with everything in life
I believe we'll survive
If we only try

How long must we all wait to change?
This world bound in chains that we live in
To know what it is to forgive
And be forg-i-i-iven

Too many years of taking now
Isn't it time to stop somehow?
Air that's too angry to breathe
Water our children can't drink

You've heard it hundreds of times
Say you're aware, believe and you care
But do you care enough?
Where's your conviction of the heart?

Ohh
One with the earth, with the sky
One with everything in life
I believe it will start
With conviction of the heart

With the earth, with the sky
One with everything in life
I believe it will start
With conviction of the heart

One earth, one sky
Only one world

Only one chance, for one life
When will we live?
(With conviction of the heart)

One child, one dream, the only one life
(One with the earth, with the sky)
You got one chance for one life
(I believe it will start)
When will we live?
(With conviction of the heart)
Only one earth, only one sky
(One with the earth, with the sky)
Only one world
(One with everything in life)
We've only got one chance to live in one life
I believe
(I believe)
It's all we got to start when we begin with some conviction of the heart
(It will start with conviction of the heart)

The Word of the Year Update...

As you know, I have followed Christine Kane's suggestion to pick a word or words that would guide us throughout the year (instead of making resolutions that we don't keep). This year my word is Synchronicity.  Here is a list of words that some Quote of the Week members have chosen...

Chad's word is DEDICATION

Amy is going with FOCUS

David says he wants to SURRENDER

Debbie's word is APPRECIATE (As in 2, 4, 6, 8  who do we....)

Toni likes the word GRACE

Carolyn's is JOY

Ed's word(s)  EXCELLENT HEALTH

BE PRESENT is Christopher's

And Stephanie is going creative with a phrase and an image...

____________

And now for the Quote of the Week (It has something to do with my word for the year)...

“Almost all the people who’ve had the most effect on me I seem to have met by chance, yet looking back it seems as though I couldn’t but have met them.”

William Somerset Maugham
__________

A Recycled Quote of the Week Classic...

"The best things in life are nearest: Breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of right just before you. Then do not grasp at the stars, but do life's plain, common work as it comes, certain that daily duties and daily bread are the sweetest things in life."

Robert Louis Stevenson

“And now we welcome the new year, full of things that have never been”

Rainer Maria Rilke

__________

It is time for the The Word for the Year!

Over the past several years I wrote about the difficulties of keeping my well intention-ed New Year's Resolutions and thanks to a to a blog by Kristine Kane, I now choose a
word or number
for the upcoming year that hopefully will inspire me on what I want "TO BE" as opposed to what I need "TO DO".

In the past my words have been: Expand, Gratitude, Possibilities, Openess, Memento Mori, Grace, and last year it was a number, 525,600 (which represents the number of minutes we have in a year).

My 2014 Word for the Year
was inspired by last week's quote and is Synchronicity! My intention is to keep that word in mind over the course of the year to be more open to those  mysteries of chance encounters or those improbable , yet meaningful  events.

What about you? What will be your word(s) that will guide you through 2014?

Wishing you a most beautiful year, wherever this may find you?
