__________

“The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own. You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the president. You realize that you control your own destiny.”

Albert Ellis

A Recycled Quote of the Week Classic...

"Finally I am coming to the conclusion that my highest ambition is to be what I already am. That I will never fulfill my obligation to surpass myself unless I first accept myself, and if I accept myself fully in the right way, I will already have surpassed myself.”

Thomas Merton

From the Quote of the Week Files, May 9, 2011

Welcome to the Quote of the Week!

The theme of this week's quotes is the subject of change. They were inspired after spending the last 2 weeks facilating a workshop on Managing Change for employees and managers going through a major change initiative in their organization.
_________

"We live in a moment of history where change is so speeded up that we begin to see the present only when it is already disappearing."

R. D. Laing
_____

"Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the fearful it is threatening because it means that things may get worse. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better. To the confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make things better."

King Whitney Jr.

Time may change me
But I can't trace time
I said that time may change me
But I can't trace time

From the Quote of the Week Files, April 25, 2012

Welcome back to the Quote of the Week. Even though National Poetry Month has passed, we still continue for one more week featuring a poem as our Quote of the Week!

What is the "Real Good" to you? John Boyle O'Reilly gave it some thought. Enjoy!
__________

The Real Good

"What is the real good?"
I ask in a musing mood.

"Order," said the law court;
"Knowledge," said the school;
"Truth," said the wise man;
"Pleasure," said the fool;
"Love," said the maiden;
"Beauty," said the page;
"Freedom," said the dreamer;
"Home," said the sage;
"Fame," said the soldier;
"Equity," said the seer.

Spake my heart fully sad:
"The answer is not here."
Then within my bosom,
Softly this I heard:

"Each heart holds the secret:

'Kindness' is the word."

2 Recycled Poem of the Week Classics....

Joy

And Joy is Everywhere;
It is in the Earth's green covering of grass;
In the blue serenity of the Sky;
In the reckless exuberance of Spring;
In the severe abstinence of grey Winter;
In the Living flesh that animates our bodily frame;
In the perfect poise of the Human figure, noble and upright;
In Living;
In the exercise of all our powers;
In the acquisition of Knowledge;
in fighting evils...
Joy is there
Everywhere.

Rabindranath Tagore

The Smile Virus

Smiling is infectious,
you catch it like the flu,
When someone smiled at me today,
I started smiling too.

I passed around the corner
and someone saw my grin
When he smiled I realized
I'd passed it on to him.

I thought about that smile
then I realized its worth,
A single smile, just like mine
could travel round the earth.

So, if you feel a smile begin,
don't leave it undetected
Let's start an epidemic quick,
and get the world infected!
