Welcome to the Quote of the Week, your first aid for pessimism!
Chad Hensle, a Quote of the Week member in good standing (and also my nephew), will begin his first day as a Teacher tomorrow. He will be teaching Texas History at a Junior High School in Richardson, Texas. With that in mind, I would like to dedicate these quotes to him and to all quote of the week members who are and have been teachers! Good luck Chad!
__________
"Ideal teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross, then having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create bridges of their own."
Nikos Kazantzakis
_____
"Every truth has four corners: as a teacher I give you one corner, and it is for you to find the other three."
Confucius

A Recycled Quote of the Week Classic...
Take this quiz:
Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
Name the last five winners of the Miss America contest.
Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer prize.
Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.
Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.
How did you do?
The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.
Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:
List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.
Name half a dozen heroes whose stories have inspired you.
Easier?
The lesson:
The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care.

_________
" You've got to own your own days and name them, each one of them, every one of them, or else the years go right by and none of them belong to you."
Herb Gardner
__________
"This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever; in its place is something that you have left behind...let it be something good."

Happy New Year and Welcome to the first quotes of the new year!!!
Perhaps this year will not be too different from last year, but, like every new year, we enter it with a certain degree of promise and expectation for something better. Hopefully the following quotes will help set the tone to having a great year! Enjoy!
__________
"What the New Year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the New Year."
Vern McLellan
___
"In whatever sense this year is a New Year for you, may the moment find you eager and unafraid, ready to take it by the hand and with joy and gratitude."
Howard Thurman
__________
A Recycled Quote of the Week Classic...
"The possibility of making this your best year ever exists in every moment, because having the best year of your life depends not on some outside accomplishment but on allowing the greatest _expression of yourself to be unveiled. Having the best year of your life is about becoming the person you always wanted to be. It's about embracing a vision of yourself at your best and developing the qualities that will take you there."

It will be here soon ~ 2009 that is! Are you ready for it?
Here are the five simple principles that can help you to a stress-free existence in the New Year by John M. Perkins, adapted from his book, The Stress-Free Habit.
__________
1. Be who you wish to be.
Whenever you find yourself contemplating the idea of becoming, stop and repeat the phrase, "I do not need to become, I will be this person beginning right now."
2. Solve the problem.
It is folly to lament the fact that you have a problem. What you must do is decide on a solution and try it.
3. Concentrate.
Whatever you do, put everything into it. If you decide to be lazy, be lazy, concentrate on your laziness! When you relax, really relax.
4. Have faith.
Believe in yourself, believe in the religion of your choice (if you choose one at all), believe in an idea or goal. Believe that you can conquer stress through the stress-free habit.
5. Meditate.
Meditation is a vehicle for bringing the other four principles into perspective on a regular and orderly basis. Meditation is at the heart of the routine practice of the stress-free habit. It is also one of the best tools available for helping us learn to concentrate".
__________
A Recycled Quote of the Week Classic...
At the end of each year, I ask myself two questions:
1) What do I want to create in this New Year? And, perhaps even more importantly,
2) What do I want to let go of?

A Recycled Quote of the Week Classic...
"There are three components of happiness...
Pleasure- we all know about what feels good.

Of those three roads, pleasure is the least consequential. Engagement and meaning are much more important."
