From the Quote of the Week Files, March 3, 2008

Welcome to the Quote of the Week! Your weekly spiritual snack for mind, body & soul. Today's quote is by Epictetus, a most practical philosopher. Enjoy!
__________

Grow up! Who cares what others think about you?

You have been given your own work to do. Get to it right now, do your best at it, and don't be concerned with who is watching you.

Nothing can truly be taken from us. There is nothing to lose. Inner peace begins when we stop saying of things, "I have lost it" and instead say, "It has been returned from where it came from."

Except for extreme physical abuse, other people cannot hurt you unless you allow them to.
The universe we inhabit is the best possible universe.

Fix your resolve on expecting justice and order, and they will increasingly reveal themselves in a divine intelligence whose intentions direct the universe.

A small tribute to a great guy...

Last week a Quote of the Week member, Dave Griffin, past away in Costa Rica. He was my friend and someone who was unendingly generous of spirit and effort towards me. I first met him in 1974 when I was living in Ithaca, NY. He was a great guy with a zest for life, a terrific sense of humor and a contagious laugh. He approached life with a great enthusiasm and was a joy to be around. I feel fortunate to have been his friend and I will miss him dearly.
__________

A Recycled Quote of the Week Classic...

Tho' much is taken, much abides; and tho'
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Alfred Lord Tennyson
